A Journey Through Time: Meemic’s Milestones and Moments
What began with a small group of teachers in Detroit, known as The Detroit Teachers Group, has blossomed into the Meemic we know today. While there’s much to share about our company’s evolution—from our Detroit roots to our expansion in Auburn Hills and beyond—let’s focus on the key moments that have defined us.
M.E.E.M.I.C originally stood for Michigan Educational Employees Mutual Insurance Company, but now, we are simply known as Meemic. Over time, we’ve broadened our offerings, adding homeowners and other insurance lines to our portfolio.
A pivotal moment for us came in 1992 with the founding of The Meemic Foundation for the Future of Education. The Meemic Foundation has made an incredible impact over the years. Just since 2015, it has awarded over 25,000 grants valued in the millions to support educators and classrooms.
The heart of our story has always been the people: our dedicated educators and school employees, and the passionate team of agents and employees who’ve helped us navigate every challenge and triumph. What started as a company serving teachers continues to thrive with that same commitment today.
Many of our agents are current or former educators, some come from families of teachers, and others have passed their agencies down through generations. It’s no surprise that a company founded in education has created bonds that continue to resonate across generations.
