MTOY Gary Abud JR. Brings ECET2 Conference to Michigan

2014 Michigan Teacher of the Year Gary Abud Jr. is bringing the first ECET2 (Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers) event to Michigan on Dec. 7 in East Lansing from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event is created and made possible through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in partnership with The Meemic Foundation, this celebratory gathering aims to inspire and empower teachers across the state to grow, collaborate and lead in a variety of ways.

The ECET2MI event is by invitation only and until Sept. 30, people are invited to nominate passionate teachers who would benefit from attending. The event was founded on two strong beliefs: nothing in education matters more than great teaching and nobody knows teaching like teachers. The session is led by teachers for teachers to help educators grow, collaborate and lead in a variety of ways to effect change in their classrooms, schools, districts, communities and profession. This year's ECET2MI is a regional event of the National ECET2 specifically dedicated at expanding teacher leader networks in Michigan.

"This will be an amazing gathering of passionate educators in one place," said Pam Harlin, spokesperson for The Meemic Foundation. "The Meemic Foundation is proud to partner with ECET2MI and Gary Abud Jr. to further educational goals that will enhance the lives of our state's students and will ultimately enrich Michigan overall."

The event is by invite only due to a limited number of spaces. Many educators would like the opportunity to attend and to eliminate favoring those who were first to hear about it, the event is asking for people to nominate educators. In turn, those nominated will fill out applications and attendees will then be selected. Those chosen will attend the festivities free of charge due to the generosity of partnering organizations.
